District 2 Conversation

I host these monthly discussions as part of an effort to increase citizen engagement within our district. Topics range from discussions on hot-button issues facing our city to presentations from city leaders and senior staff meant to broaden our awareness and understanding of our municipal government. There is always an opportunity for us to meet and speak one to one at the end. Attendance ranges anywhere from 25 to 125.

November’s District 2 Conversation will be dedicated to a discussion about violence against women and girls and the resources that we have available within our community to assist them.

Speaking will be:

  • Donna Bloom, Director of Legal Services, Denton County Friends of the Family
  • Denton Police Department (Chief Howell has committed staff TBD)

This D2 Conversation will be held on Sunday, November 20th at 2:00 PM at the North Branch Library, 3020 North Locust Street.  Facebook event invite HERE.

Stream Clean 2016 Was Huge! Volunteers picked up more than a ton of trash and recyclables.

On Saturday, Nov. 5, hundreds of volunteers gathered to clean up waterways in and around Denton at the City’s annual event, Stream Clean. As a result, 2,040 pounds of trash and 580 pounds of recyclable materials were picked up, as well as more than a dozen tires and other large items.

Stream Clean is sponsored by the City of Denton Water Utilities Department, Environmental Services and Sustainability, the Solid Waste and Recycling Department, and Keep Denton Beautiful. Volunteers included groups from Denton ISD, the University of North Texas, Texas Woman’s University, and FEMA Region 6.  A BIG “THANK YOU” TO ALL OF THOSE WHO VOLUNTEERED THEIR TIME!

Next year’s Stream Clean is tentatively planned for a Saturday in October. Information about volunteering will be available at www.cityofdenton.com.

That is all for now. Please contact me anytime with questions, concerns, or ideas to improve our city and D2.

Your humble representative,

Keely G. Briggs
