City Budget & Taxes, EPA Hearing on Regulating Emissions Related to Gas Well Drilling, District 2 Community Conversation 9/20/15

Tuesday, September 1: Budget Workshop, Council Work Session, and Regular Meeting

A busy Tuesday ahead.   The morning begins with a budget workshop (agenda here), followed a council work session at 1:00PM, and then a regular meeting that evening at 6:30PM (combined agendas here). I would encourage anyone with interest in Denton’s budget and proposed tax rate to pay attention to items C. ID 15-694 and D. ID 15-695 in the public hearing of our regular meeting. This is your chance to provide input on budgets and taxes for the upcoming year. Come speak and/or register your input on Tuesday night. It is your money that we are talking about.

The Environmental Protection Agency Seeks Public Input on Proposed Regulation of Emissions Related to Gas Well Drilling

Public Hearing: September 23, 2015, 9:00AM to 8:00PM, Dallas, TX. The hearing will be held at the Dallas City Hall, Council Chambers, 1500 Marilla Street, Dallas, TX 75201. The last day to pre-register to speak at the hearing will be September 18, 2015.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold a public hearing in Dallas, TX on proposed updates to the agency’s air rules for the oil and natural gas industry. EPA has proposed commonsense standards that would reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and volatile organic compounds from this rapidly growing industry. The proposal is a part of the Administration’s strategy under President Obama’s Climate Action Plan to reduce methane emissions from this sector. The agency also has proposed two rules to clarify permitting requirements for the oil and gas industry.

Sunday, September 20: District 2 Community Conversation

North Branch Library 2:00-4:00 PM. This will be the first in a series of open forums for District 2 citizens.  These conversations will be held at the wonderful North Branch Library here in District 2.  I would like to encourage you and your family (bring the kids) to attend.  It is a great opportunity to express your ideas, communicate your concerns, and to discuss the direction of the city with me and your fellow citizens.  Citizen engagement is a cornerstone issue for me.  I will remind you as we get closer to this date and provide some items and themes for the conversation just to get the ball rolling.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or ideas.  I am here for you District 2.

Keely G. Briggs
